In the collection of the maker

Although it doesn't open, the piece is essentially a dovetailed box. The 'lid' of the box is carved to create the cove for the shrine. The depth of this cove requires the lid to receed into and almost entirely fill the 'box.' The back and lid are housed in the sides to allow for seasonal wood movement.

I created this piece to display one of my collection of pop bottles. It could also be used to house a religious statuette. It was inspired by romanesque architecture. I fashioned it entirely with hand tools.
